"Harry Truman gave them hell. Sarah Palin gives them agita. The Associated Press unleashed 11 fact checkers on her new book, "Going Rogue," for a thoroughly tendentious critical examination. Newsweek, the influential liberal magazine of opinion, published a cover piece damning her to the outer darkness, balanced by another piece damning her to the further-outer darkness. The conservative-leaning New York Times columnist David Brooks called her "a joke."

There may be an upside to rogue, but unfortunately for Palin, there is nothing Rogue about the focus of her book, which is on the campaign, on the past. Even John Tantillo, who defended her decision to resign as governor, wrote that this book is a misstep, sacrificing what made her popular in the first place: "forward motion.
Her book tour is smart in that it is set up more like a campaign tour. She is avoiding cities like nyc and Boston, but she is also avoiding the Evangelical Epicenter, where support for her is already assured. Instead, she's focusing on "Boom Towns"--where McCain beat Obama by 5%. (Great--and short--CSM article on that here.) With this approach, she has a good shot at expanding her base a bit. But I'm sure that it could have done a lot more for her if instead of being 1/2 autobiographical and 1/2 focused on the campaign, it was 1/2 autobio, 1/4 on the campaign, and at least 1/4 on visions for the country, for the future, etc., etc.
For those who love to hate Palin, themost entertainingly scathing article I've read is on Media Matters.
