Won’t Get Fooled Again |
Is there a person alive who epitomizes quote, “there’s no fool like an old fool” better than Jimmy Carter? What is it about the terrorist organization known as Hamas that escapes him? Despite all the pomp and circumstance surrounding his visit, despite all the rhetoric about the “necessity” of keeping these murderous thugs “in the loop” of the “peace” process, everything comes down to one simple equation: Israel: we want a two-state solution and peace with the Palestinians. Hamas: we want Israel eliminated from the face of the earth. This equation is, literally, sixty years old. And in all these years, despite all the “almost-but not-quite” dissembling of Yasir Arafat and his henchman descendants, the equation remains unchanged. Mr. Carter will not change it. He will merely give yet another patina of legitimacy to those who are fundamentally illegitimate, to those who still teach their children that Jews descended from pigs and monkeys and must be annihilated. Ironically, Mr. Carter is animated by the very same hubris as Barack Obama. Liberals like these two, despite mountains of historical evidence to the contrary, believe all the world is lacking is their superior insight by which every deficiency of the human condition can be cured. Mr. Carter believes Hamas will abandon its irrational hatred of Jews. Mr. Obama apparently believes Americans will abandon their “irrational” faith in guns, God and the rule of law. It’s too late to keep Jimmy Carter from a position of influence, no matter how misguided, that automatically accrues to any former president of the United States. Here’s hoping the electorate will send Mr. Obama back to the relative obscurity of the Senate, where his hubris can be mitigated by ninety-nine other egomaniacs. One fool, old or young, occupying the Oval Office is more than enough. |
