"Boric acid mixed with water slows down the nuclear fission and ultimately reduces the heat, cooling the troubled nuclear reactors that have been in peril following the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on March 11."

I heard a physicist talking about the 'chernobyl' solution a few days ago - basically bury the reactors in boric acid and concrete - he said it was the last chance solution before a monumental disaster.... makes sense, since the reactors will never be used again.... what a mess the poor Japanese have here....
