"Protecting Our Troops"

by: Rick Leventhal

"When troops go into war zones they protect their bodies from attacks with helmets and flak vests, but when they go to sleep they take that protection off.

If they're on a hardened base they're likely sleeping behind blast walls or piles of sandbags that can help prevent injuries in the event of mortar strikes or weapon fire, but not every tent or con-ex sleeping container is protected and when troops pack up and move they leave those walls behind.

A company called Tex Tech is marketing a new product, designed by scientists, engineers and students at the University of Maine, that could save lives and prevent injuries in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere."
