A clearer definition of torture

"If I am to understand Attorney General Eric Holder’s logic, waterboarding is torture, so we won’t do it any more.

How handy it must be to breeze through life unburdened by the consequences of such stunning oversimplification.

In practice, the controversial procedure Holder ruled out in remarks this week was extremely rare, exhaustively reviewed ahead of time and, in at least one instance – the questioning of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Muhammad – useful in saving American lives."
