A series of tsunamis smashed into the Pacific island nations of American and Western Samoa killing possibly more than 100 people, some washed out to sea, destroying villages and injuring hundreds, officials said on Wednesday. My science students are working on energy science fair projects and are coming up with their topics. When this tsunami struck I thought that it would be a good time to discuss how the transfer of energy can be destructive. Does anyone known how much energy was released by the 8.0 earthquake that triggered the tsunami?
