When killing becomes everyday

Foreign troops are essential to any peace bid, writes Mike Pflanz in Rutshuru.

CHILDREN laden with pots padded barefoot past the corpses of government soldiers on the road to the town of Rutshuru, ignoring a sight that is all too familiar for many.

Less than four days earlier, the same children walked the same road in the other direction, fleeing the rebel army which first took Rutshuru, and which was now trying to woo them home with promises of peace and security.
