Blacklist
By Monica Crowley (bio)
Yet another example of Obama arrogance, hubris, and power intoxication.
He booted reporters from The New York Post, The Washington Times, and the Dallas Morning News off his campaign plane for the final few days of the race. Their big crime? Their newspapers all endorsed John McCain. (Keep in mind: endorsements are written by the EDITORIAL page staff. Reporters belong to the NEWS (and not editorial) divisions. Obama took out his anger on the wrong people, but what’s a minor detail like that when you’re talking about The One?)
His campaign spokesman, Bill Burton, tried to explain: there are only so many seats on the plane, you see, and we need to make room for others. Like writers from Ebony, Essence, and Jet magazines. Burton said they wanted to fold in new reporters to try to reach “swing voters.” Reality check: If you’re reading Jet magazine, you’re not a swing voter.
Obama likes to say that if he becomes president, he’ll get along with Republicans. How’s he going to do that when he can’t even get along with reporters whose newspapers endorsed McCain?
This comes on top of other fits of pique at those who dare to dissent:
Last week, The Biden flipped his plugs when a local Florida anchor asked him some tough questions. Team Obama then canceled all scheduled interviews with that station. Same drill with a Philadelphia station, when one of their anchors asked The Biden some questions he didn’t like. Their big crime? Asking some probing questions.
Joe the Plumber was the target of a Democratic invasion of his privacy, when an Ohio state operative used government computers to try to dig up dirt on him. He was summarily smeared by the Democrats and their wingmen in the press. His big crime? Asking Obama a question about taxes.
A Chicago radio station was subjected to a full-court press of jammed phone lines and intimidation after one of its hosts interviewed a journalist looking into Obama’s past. Their big crime? Exercising their right to free speech.
Welcome to the new blacklist.
Any disagreement with Obama will be punished. Any dissent will be silenced. Any opposing viewpoints will be squashed. And anybody who dares to speak out risks being torn apart, live, in real time, in front of the country.
Obama believes the First Amendment is merely a suggestion.
Two days left.
