Loose Change
By Monica Crowley (bio)

“Change is coming to America,” Barack Obama said last night in his victory speech, echoing the theme he used to win the election.

The question is: what kind of “change” is coming?

The only thing we have to go on is what he has said and the (limited) things he has done in the past. And they are not encouraging.

He will attempt to:

1. “Redistribute the wealth” by increasing your taxes. By a lot. Across the board. You will get hit with taxes you thought wouldn’t go up and taxes you didn’t know existed—because they didn’t, until now.

2. Explode big government. He’s proposed $1 trillion in new spending, and since he will get it from his widely Democratic Congress, he will need massive new bureaucracies to support the massive new government programs.

3. Appease our enemies. He’s said that within his first 100 days, he plans to parachute into the Muslim world, full of apologies for America’s war against radical Islam. His “apology tour” will be read as weakness.

4. Dilute the First Amendment. Congressional Democrats have already said they want to reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine, so say goodbye to Rush, Sean, and me. Kicking reporters off his campaign plane because their newspapers endorsed John McCain, winking at the press being used to smear innocent, private citizens like Joe the Plumber, and Obama’s own hits at Fox News suggest a palpable chill on free speech, with more to come.

5. Dilute the Second Amendment. Obama wants to ban the concealed carry of firearms and otherwise infringe on that Bill of Rights right.

6. Bankrupt the coal industry.

7. Destroy private retirement accounts like 401(k)s in favor of more government Social Security-esque nightmare schemes.

8. Obliterate life. He supports the Freedom of Choice Act, which would remove ALL restrictions on abortion.

9. Take the Supreme Court off the cliff. With one to three vacancies to fill, Obama will see to it we have a high court that will free terrorist suspects after granting them every right, flood the country with illegal immigrants, and sanction an abortion free-for-all.

A majority of Americans voted for “change” yesterday.

And boy, are we going to get it.
