Dissed

By Monica Crowley (bio)

You can almost hear the strains of “Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina” wafting from the second floor of the Chappaqua, New York mansion as Hillary Clinton paces the hallways.

She stews. She simmers. She seethes.

First, Barack Obama hijacked the Democratic nomination from her. Then he won the presidency.

And now, the coup de grace: she had asked to chair a special Senate Subcommittee on health care, so she could spearhead new efforts for universal health care and nail down her legacy on the issue.

But Senator Ted Kennedy, the Chairman of the Committee, had a different idea: HE wanted to be large and in charge. So he denied her request.

To add insult to injury, another Democratic Senator, Max Baucus, is now proposing his own reform, and Obama’s team, including Senator Tom Daschle and newly appointed White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, are seizing the reins of Obama’s health care initiatives.

Hillary: left out in the cold by her fellow Democrats. Lonely. Dismissed. Forgotten. Trampled.

As is her husband.

The Bonnie and Clyde of American politics don’t take well to being disrespected. Let the games begin.
