Happy Fourth of July. Here's to nostalgia, and to spitting watermelon seeds at one another in the yard as shadows lengthen. I'll be chary and brief in my idyll, though, for "that way madness lies."

You do not use the word "be" with the word "chary" -- You'll "chary and be brief." ---Yikes. -- but probably you'll do neither.
